About Wool-Aid

Wool-Aid began as a Ravelry group committed to creating warm woolen knitted and crocheted garments to be distributed to children through the Warm Woolies organization.

When the group on Ravelry (originally named Warm Woolies, though it was not an official arm of the organization) was formed in November 2008, many of its members had been contributing their lovingly handcrafted garments through Warm Woolies for several years.

In November 2009, Warm Woolies announced that they were ceasing operations at the end of the year, and suddenly the Ravelry group of more than 500 knitters and crocheters needed to re-group!

At the beginning of 2010, the group transitioned to the name Wool-Aid, with the same wonderful group of people committed to the same mission.

The year 2014 brought another transition, as Wool-Aid became Wool-Aid, Inc., and was registered as a non-profit corporation in the State of Illinois.

In 2015, Wool-Aid, Inc. was recognized as a tax-exempt charitable organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue code. All gifts to Wool-Aid are now tax-deductible.

The Ravelry Wool-Aid group has now topped 2500 members and draws from several countries around the world as well as the United States, where we are based.

Join us! Become part of a wonderful community of caring and generous crafters who knit, crochet, and weave warm woolen clothing and blankets for children living in desperate conditions.
